In a surprising turn of events, Zinedine Zidane, the former Real Madrid manager, has reportedly turned down Paris Saint-Germain’s coaching job offer to replace Christophe Galtier. Despite the latter leading Paris Saint-Germain to the 2022-23 French Ligue 1 title, it’s believed that he will be sacked from his position.

Julian Nagelsmann, Former Bayern Munich coach and highest tipped, has been rumored to be on board as the next head coach. However, according to reports in France, it has been revealed that he wasn’t the first choice for the role.

Le Parisien has reported that Zidane was asked in recent weeks whether he would be interested in taking on the head coach position. Nevertheless, he turned down the offer given to him by PSG, which adds more to his recent history of refusing job offers, which included Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr.

PSG’s shortlist of managers is studded with top-level coaches, including Luis Enrique, former Spain manager, and Xabi Alonso, current Bayer Leverkusen coach. Meanwhile, it’s been speculated that Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, and Espanyol Manager, is set to return, an additional rumor that PSG’s fans and avid football followers predict will indeed see the light of day.

Despite the extensive list of illustrious former players and coaches, Zinedine Zidane’s snub could come as a particular blow to PSG’s hierarchy, as he had previously enjoyed successes with Real Madrid, leading them to win three successive UEFA Champions League titles. Moreover, he was the first coach to achieve those records consecutively, a feat that puts him in an elite league of his own.

While Paris Saint-Germain sought to take a step further, attracting top-level coaches to their ranks, despite the recent setback, there’s no denying that they still retain their fair share of talent. In particular, PSG’s star-studded lineup of Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, and their other world-class players undoubtedly still have a lot to offer.
