Actress and model Bijou Phillips were admitted to the hospital in Santa Barbara in February 2017 due to a severe blood infection and high fever caused by her ongoing kidney disease. Despite her strict vegan diet and regular dialysis, she urgently needed a kidney transplant. However, her prayers were soon answered when she found out that a close friend was a match and willing to donate their kidney.

Phillips expressed her gratitude for the upcoming transplant in a since-deleted Instagram post, saying that she had been waiting for this day for a long time. She also acknowledged that the dialysis had been challenging, but she was grateful for the support of her family and husband. The surgery was a major one, and Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, the kidney disease that caused her condition, was scary, but she remained optimistic.

Thankfully, the transplant was successful, and Phillips has since recovered.
