AOC Talks Donald Trump’s Arrest Claim

AOC Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made headlines on Monday after appearing on “The Daily Show” with guest host Jordan Klepper. During the interview, the New York Democrat discussed a variety of topics, including the recent visit of former President Donald Trump to New York City.

When asked how her fellow New Yorkers reacted to Trump’s visit, Ocasio-Cortez replied: “I think they treated him like a Florida man. He doesn’t belong to us no mo. He’s not from Queens anymore. He’s a citizen of Mar-a-Lago at this point.” The Congresswoman also joked that while Republican representatives George Santos and Marjorie Taylor Greene may have been crying, she was not, saying: “Ticket back to LaGuardia, the baby.”

Despite the lighthearted moments, Ocasio-Cortez and Klepper also delved into more serious topics, such as gun violence. The Congresswoman joined Klepper at the Bronx’s Jacobi Medical Center to talk about its Stand Up to Violence program, which treats gun violence as a public health crisis.

During the discussion, Klepper joked about how Fox News might spin the program’s efforts, saying: “‘AOC tries to defund the police and fund gang members.’” Ocasio-Cortez brushed off the comment, saying: “If I spent my time worried about what Fox News said, I wouldn’t be here.”

The Stand Up to Violence program aims to prevent shootings and homicides in the Bronx, which has one of the highest rates of gun violence in New York City. The program provides a range of services, including counseling, job training, and community outreach, to help individuals at risk of being involved in gun violence.

Ocasio-Cortez praised the program’s approach, saying: “It’s not just about trying to prevent shootings, it’s about trying to prevent people from feeling like they need to pick up a gun in the first place.”

The Congresswoman also discussed her own experiences with gun violence, recalling a time when a friend of hers was shot and killed in front of her. “It’s something that sticks with you forever,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez has been a vocal advocate for gun control, pushing for measures such as background checks and bans on assault weapons. She has also called for a broader approach to addressing gun violence, including addressing underlying issues such as poverty and lack of access to mental health care.

In addition to gun violence, Ocasio-Cortez and Klepper also discussed the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the need for equitable vaccine distribution. The Congresswoman emphasized the importance of reaching out to communities that have been disproportionately affected by the virus, including low-income communities and communities of color.
