Alexis, Pepe & five players at Confederations Cup who could transfer this summer

The Arsenal forward has been heavily linked with a big-money exit, but who else could be on the move when the window of opportunity re-opens?

A number of highly sought-after players will be in action at the Confederations Cup this summer.

With the World Cup dress rehearsal getting underway in Russia next week, and with stars like Alexis Sanchez and Cristiano Ronaldo taking part, Goal has taken a look at the potential movers and shakers in the tournament…

ALEXIS SANCHEZ (Manchester City, PSG or Bayern Munich)

Alexis Sanchez Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez is a player who is set to dominate headlines this summer. Wanted by numerous elite clubs, Alexis appeared set to leave the Emirates this summer, but Goal understands that Arsenal are determined to keep hold of one of their prized assets.

Nevertheless, Manchester City are convinced they can lure the Chile international to the Etihad Stadium as their spending continues, having already signed Bernardo Silva from Monaco and goalkeeper Ederson from Benfica.

Bayern Munich are also interested, along with Juventus and PSG, but it remains to be seen if there will be a bidding war, or if Alexis will be convinced to stay. With his contract due to expire in 12 months’ time, there is sure to be some kind of resolution this summer.

GELSON MARTINS (Liverpool)

Gelson Martins Sporting CP

Liverpool have long admired Mohamed Salah of Roma, but the deal is threatening to turn into a saga amid numerous news stories surrounding his potential destinations. As such, Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins has been considered as a potential alternative.

Roma are believed to be holding out for around £40 million for Salah, leading the Reds to consider their options, with Martins an attractive option.

A pacey 22-year-old right winger, Martins was Sporting’s standout player last season, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists, and offers both the ability and the sell-on value craved by Liverpool’s bargain-hunting owners.

PEPE (PSG, Inter, numerous Chinese clubs or Manchester United)

Pepe Real Madrid Atletico Madrid La Liga

Having announced that he will leave Real Madrid this summer, Pepe is unlikely to be short of offers this summer.

A brutally uncompromising defender, the Portugal international loves tackling as much as he loves winning, and has been linked with numerous clubs in this transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain are the favourites for his signature and have presented him with an offer already. While a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United is perhaps unlikely, Inter are considering a move while a number of Chinese Super League clubs are hopeful of a marquee acquisition.

ANTONIO RUDIGER (Chelsea or Inter)

Antonio Rudiger Germany

Another uncompromising defender, Antonio Rudiger has been the subject of numerous transfer rumours this summer, and spoke out on a potential move to Inter on Friday.

“I’ve delegated the responsibility for dealing with these things to my brother so I can fully focus on the Confederations Cup, regardless of whether or not there are any offers,” he told Bild, while insisting that he had read the rumours claiming a move to Roma’s Serie A rivals was nearing completion.

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the Germany international, and a strong showing in Russia would surely only serve to increase the Blues’ desire to explore a possible deal.

NELSON SEMEDO (Manchester United or Barcelona)

Nelson Semedo Benfica

Nelson Semedo is a man in demand. A fine right-back, the 23-year-old made his breakthrough in 2016-17 and established himself as one of the world’s best full-backs as Benfica won the Portuguese league title.

Goal reported in May that Barcelona had opened talks with Benfica over a potential transfer, which would likely cost around €30m, but Manchester United have also been heavily linked with the star.

Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest – per reports in Portugal – but it seems more likely that Semedo will move to a European heavyweight this summer.
